Kyneton is one of nine towns participating in the Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival.
There are so many great events and activities, including many that are free, celebrating the harvest season!
Start your weekend at Kyneton Farmers Market – a one stop destination for autumn food highlights.
Apples make up half the world’s deciduous fruit harvest and many of the most loved apple varieties are picked in autumn.
When you buy freshly picked apples at the market you will have the chance to speak directly to the grower.
Carol Lang has been a stallholder for more than 10 years. She married a sixth generation apple grower.
Langdale Orchards grow 10 varieties of apples and five varieties of pears. Apples fans will love the less well-known varieties like Abbas, Cox Pippin and Snow apples.
One of the things that makes Langdale so special is that it has been farmed by the same family for 164 years.
In practical terms that means first-hand experience and knowledge of the land, trees and seasons is handed down to each new generation.
Established in 1858 by James Lang, the orchard was one of the original three that pioneered the fruit industry in the Harcourt Valley.
In the 1870s James Lang exported fruit back to England. In 1874 a granite home was constructed, which the Lang family still live today today.
Do the taste test and see for yourself why so many market fans love eating fresh local produce!
Free music and entertainment is also on the market this autumn thanks to the Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
Two puppet characters, Roy and Joy Gardener will also be found around the market giving away small gifts of autumn leaves and produce from the garden during the morning.
Around 12pm the Funkateers Street Band will arrive at the market.
Nine performers will take on New Orleans-style numbers will be making their way to the Kyneton Botanical Gardens for a free concert that starts at 2pm.
The inspiring dad/daughter duo Freya and Tom McGowan will also make a return.
Up in the Makers Market, local artist Evie Dora is wanting help from anyone who thinks they “can’t paint” to be part of making a community autumn canvas.
The community painting completed at the March market is on display across the road thanks to Art on Piper.
Visitors and locals can also follow the Autumn Pie and Tart Trail which is part of the Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival.
