The countdown is on until the highly anticipated Castlemaine Jazz Festival makes its return following a two-year hiatus.
The seventh annual event will run over three big days on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June.
After COVID saw the festival’s cancellation for the past two years running, committee members, performers and music lovers alike are thrilled to see the popular event return.
Castlemaine Jazz Festival committee member, Lyndal McClure, said they were inundated with expressions of interest from 70 bands and had selected 30 to feature over the three-day program.
Performances will take place at Castlemaine’s iconic Theatre Royal, Phee Broadway Theatre, the Castlemaine Bowling Club and at new venue –Boom Town Wine at The Mill in Walker Street.
Tickets are on sale online and at the Castlemaine Visitor Centre at the Castlemaine Market Building.
“We’ve got a pass for the entire weekend or just for an entire day or just for an evening for the Saturday or Sunday,” Ms McClure said.
The June 10-12 program offers fans a robust diversity of jazz genre.
A performance by the all-female Melba Big Band is also scheduled to happen on stage in the Castlemaine Town Hall on the Saturday afternoon June 11 enabling visitors to the annual Rotary Art Show – that’s also planning a post-COVID comeback – to catch some live music while enjoying the art at the same time.
The 2022 festival lineup includes plenty of local favs including Meg Corson, Esstee Big Band, Shirazz, The Seduceaphones, the Meg Corson Sexytet and the Windows of Longing.
