A great weekend for Kyneton Football Netball Club, with all four football teams winning against Eaglehawk on Saturday.
For the seniors to go to Canterbury Park and finish strongly to topple Eaglehawk by 19 points was another step forward in the bid to consolidate a finals berth.
Canterbury Park has a reputation as a fortress where visiting teams find the going tough …. It was not easy on Saturday but the Tigers dug in an four goals to one in the final quarter with the match in the balance was very encouraging for the journey ahead in 2022.
The senior side was buoyed by wins to the Reserves and Under 18s earlier in the day. Their confidence should be on the way up after very determined efforts.
It showed players have been able to bounce back after some less than encouraging efforts earlier in the season.
The main match was a battle for supremacy with the outcome uncertain until late in the last quarter.
In the first half goals were scarce, but the Tigers’ confidence rose with an eight point lead at the long break.
The struggle for supremacy continued in the third quarter, with three goals apiece leaving Kyneton five points up goi g into the last quarter.
Both teams had incentive, but it was Kyneton which showed the poise and teamwork needed to produce four match winning goals.
At the same time the defenders kept the Hawks to just 1.4 for the term.
Once again Cameron Manuel showed his class to finish with five goals, and dashing young defender Louis Thompson played one of his best games at this level, with plenty of improvement ahead.
The match was live streamed and Kyneton supporters who could not make the trip north were rewarded with a victory.
RURAL ROUND
The Tigers have toppled Golden Square and Eaglehawk at their past two outings, and will be looking for a third scalp when Sandhurst ventures south for the big ‘Rural Round’ match at the Showgrounds.
Special guest speaker will be Richmond defender Dylan Grimes, who operates the Mount Macedon Winery and associated restaurant.
The Rural Round celebrates businesses and producers in the Macedon Ranges …. And there’s a special sponge cake competition as well.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL
The Tigers scored a phenomenal win against strong opposition, adding to the celebratory mood.
Final scores were Kyneton 6.6 (42) to Eaglehawk 4.9 (33).

Various awards were handed out for players who made major contributions to the victory.
Recipients were Teagan Ainslie, Rachael Williams, Neve Brissenden, Amy Campbell, Maddy Stott and Bee Hateley.
NETBALL
The A-grade match between Kyneton and Eaglehawk was an absolute thriller.
The Hawks eventually won 44-43 in a match that could have easily gone to the Tigers.
