Macedon Ranges’ own talent will be showcased at this year’s Victorian State Schools Spectacular in September.
Tap dancer Lana Hughes will debut as part of the main cast with a speciality act, representing Kyneton High School.
The role has always been a dream for the dancer who first picked up her tap shoes in 2011.
“Everybody at Spec wants to see you succeed, perform and have fun,” she told the Express.
“My weekends at the performing arts unit are always packed with smiles and laughter. Everybody there is just so talented: I’m working with gymnasts who have represented Victoria at national championships, dancers who live in Melbourne and of course, literal circus artists who train at Nation Institute of Circus Arts.
“All the teachers are just so enthusiastic and are so knowledgeable about performing, they have so much knowledge to teach every week and are constantly coming up with awesome new ideas.”
The year 11 student was scheduled to dance in last year’s show, which was cancelled due to the pandemic. Before then, Lana performed in the mass choir with Kyneton Primary School in 2017.
Joining Lana for the big day is year 10 Kyneton High School student Darby Harrison who is part of the backstage crew, assisting with stage management.
Malmsbury Primary School will also return to the stage with a group of 15 students as part of the Mass Choir.
It is a huge commitment by all the students as they have been rehearsing every week since March in preparation.
They have choreography and nine songs to learn; among them are: You Raise Me Up, Eleanor Rigby, You Can’t Stop The Beat, and When Love Takes Over.
Students have met for a Mass Choir rehearsal twice at the Melbourne Town Hall. After months of dedication, the group is now prepared for the big performance.
The Victorian State Schools Spectacular will take place at the John Cain Arena in Melbourne on September 10.
