Power pricing ponders

Brian Clarke, Castlemaine

Recently I heard that a deputation of business leaders asked our Prime Minister to address the base load power crisis in Australia. Is this because until 2006, Australia produced the most reliable and cheapest electricity in the world, whereas now, in South Australia, where all power stations have been closed, electricity prices are the highest in the world and three times the price of electricity in the USA. Is this why Germany, which produces electricity at the third highest cost in the world is now building cars in the US state of Alabama? And how will Victoria fare after the next election, because our premier has declared he will follow the example of the former South Australian premier by closing all power stations?
