MainFM’s ‘award-winning’ annual footy match fundraiser, The MAIN Game, returns on the long weekend in June, bigger and better than ever!

Will the Radio Galahs bounce back after last year’s first loss to the Rockatoos?

Bring the family and join the community for a fun day out at the historic Camp Reserve on Sunday June 11 to witness
the most entertaining game of Aussie Rules footy this side of the Great Divide.

Enjoy live local music and entertainment, food stalls, the MAIN Bar and more!

A community engagement and major fundraising initiative for local radio station 94.9 MainFM, punters can expect a seriously fun game of Aussie rules footy between the Radio Galahs, made up of mostly MainFM radio presenters, and the Rockatoos, made up mostly of local musicians, along with other respectable and enthusiastic community members of mixed ages, all genders and mixed abilities.

“MainFM was awarded Community Event of the Year at the Mount Alexander Shire Australia Day Awards Ceremony so we’re building on the success of last year in an effort to garner interest and support for the station,” said Sue McLennan, sponsorship and events manager at MainFM.

“And with a record number of player registrations this year, we’re on track to doing just that.”

McLennan said the event was a great day out for the whole family.

“Footy brings people together and The MAIN Game is no exception. We are excited to offer an event that the whole family can enjoy,” she said.

“The much-loved and respected Castlemaine Highland Pipe Band will make a return, local rockers The Presbyterians will bang out a few tunes at half-time and the MAIN Cheer Squad will make its debut appearance. All this as well as food stalls, the MAIN Bar, face painting and footy!”

The MainFM van will be broadcasting live from the event for those listening elsewhere, with MainFM’s own entertaining and unique commentary team bringing listeners all the action from on the ground.

And with training well under way, the volunteer coaching staff has been putting players through their paces.

Coach Kate Freston said they were preparing players to take to the ground with confidence.

“We are doing this by building footy skills and fitness and importantly, having fun and a few laughs in the process,”
Freston said.

Gates will open at midday, with entertainment starting at 12.30pm. Game starts at 1.30pm.

Entry is $5 for MainFM subscribers, $10 general entry, free for kids under 18. Tickets are on sale now at mainfm.net
