Peer support for carers

Trentham Lions Club has launched the 'Cool Country Carers' program to provide a network and peer support to carers in Trentham and district area.

Carers are people who have unique needs as they selflessly help others with their day-to-day living. This includes caring for people who have a disability, a medical condition or chronic illness, mental illness such as dementia, children with special needs or those who are frail or aged.

According to Deloitte Access Economics, the need for carers is at an all-time high with one out of every eight Australians providing informal care.

“We recognise the enormous commitment the role of a carer can be,” Trentham Lions president Gita Khatri said.

“This group gives you opportunities to meet with other carers and share your experience, enjoy the company of others, catch up for coffee and chat without any expectation and know that you are not alone.”

The group’s first coffee morning is at Trentham General cafĂ©, 37A High Street, Trentham, on May 19 at 10.30am.

“We warmly welcome you,” Gita said.
