Sad sideshow

Patrick Hockey, Castlemaine

Climate change denial is a sad sideshow to the reality of climate change impacting the globe now. Not only are events like the Californian wildfires unprecedented in scale, but the precedents they are exceeding were only established in recent years. The changes are alarmingly linear. Where will we be in just ten years time? We stand upon a moment in time where we must drastically reduce our emissions as a moral duty to future generations. Parents and grandparents can no longer look into the eyes of children and opine that there ‘is nothing I can do’ as they head off on yet another overseas flight. We must and shall make drastic re-evaluations of the way we see the future unfolding for the nine billion future inhabitants of the planet all clamouring to enjoy the same middle-class affluence that has created the problem in the first place.
