LEGO made its mark at last year’s Kyneton Show, and this year it will be bigger than ever.
Bigger, that is, because the Show has commissioned Bendigo LEGO Users’ Group to design a Kyneton Show-themed wall that will be progressively built through the day.
The giant wall – which measures approximately three by three metres – was created by the Users’ Group specially for the show and then segmented so that it can be rebuilt from thousands of tiny LEGO tiles.
Show attendees are invited to put pieces on the wall, which will be slowly unveiled until at the end of Show Day (Saturday), when it will be completed.
Kara Harris, president the Users’ Group, said there were 504 plates to be put on the wall, each with 64 LEGO bricks, meaning that a massive 32,256 LEGO bricks would be used to make the complete mosaic!
“It’s an awesome image,” she said.
Convenor of the Show’s LEGO pavilion, Nicole Laity, said they were overwhelmed by the number and quality of entries last year and expect more this year.
“There are a huge range of categories to enter your LEGO work in, catering from novices to absolute masters; and from children to adults,” she said.
The Show’s Carnival night is on Friday November 17 from 5.30pm, with fireworks at 9pm, music, Lasertag, Meltdown, and other rides and activities.
Show Day Saturday gates open at 9am with an emphasis on free activities including craft tent, Farmer Darryl’s animal nursery, farm workshop, pony rides, country parkour and a woodchop demonstration. And – of course – the Lego mosaic.
Entries in the Show’s competitions are now open in most categories until November 14. And while you can enter the ‘traditional’ way by queuing up at the Showground office in the week before the Show, this year you can also enter online then simply drop your entry off before the cut off date. All entry details and drop off times are on the web page.
In addition to the Lego competition, categories for the competitions include home and farm produce, cakes, chocolate and scones, jams, preserves, home brewing, horticulture, needlework and knitting, photography, paper skills, craft, writing and drawing as well the traditional sheep, poultry, alpaca, horse and dog competitions.
Online entries to competitions are available from the Show’s website www.kynetonshow.org.au and the full program is available either online or by contacting the Show organisers at kynetonshow@gmail.com.
