Crank up the dance floor

Breaking hearts and starting dance-floor fires since 2013, Sugar Fed Leopards are coming to Castlemaine on Friday, performing their sweet original soul music emanating from somewhere in the sequined space between disco, doo-wop and rock n roll.

The beloved septet will close out 2023 with their new single Need You Now, a chugging, Bee Gee-esque disco tune conceived at a writing retreat in the picturesque gold mining town of Harrietville, Victoria and inspired by 1934 floods.

Sugar Fed Leopards vocalist Steph had been walking by the river and discovered a sign detailing the floods that devastated the town.

“The lyrics were directly lifted from the notice board in the car park in the centre of Harrietville and from a newspaper article that I looked up when I got home,” Steph said.

The track provides all the signature Sugar Fed Leopards trademarks; jangly guitar, sleazy saxophone, banging three-part harmonies and a bumping rhythm section. It’s a certified formula that has cranked the dance floors of every sticky carpeted Melbourne pub and music venue for 10 years.

The choreographed dance moves and raucous theatrics keep getting better and looser. Getting undeniably hotter over time with fresh tunes and new moves, Sugar Fed Leopards are standing by and ready to whip up an ecstatic meringue on the dance floor of your dreams.

The Sugar Fed Leopards will be performing at the Theatre Royal in Castlemaine on Friday, November 24, 8pm. Visit www.theatreroyalcastlemaine.com.au/music to purchase tickets.
