The now 200-member strong Castlemaine Community Investment Co-operative is thrilled to announce the launch of a special fundraising poster as part of its campaign to buy the Hub building in Castlemaine.
Co-op director Cath Jolly said this stunning poster, by Australian cartoonist David Pope, captured the spirit of Castlemaine and some of the things people loved about it most, including the Hub!
“It was created to thank the members who have helped with the campaign so far, but now we are offering it to the public to cover some of our campaign costs,” she said.
The design comes in various sizes as an art print, cheaper poster, postcard, and fridge magnet. It is available from David’s red bubble website – www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/169947504
The poster is being released after 30 co-op members leafleted the whole town over Easter about the co-Op venture, which aims to purchase the historic building and retain it within community ownership.
“The response to our campaign has been fantastic,” said co-op director Angus Gratton.
“People want to see the Hub in community hands, and not just another real estate development that makes money for outside interests.”
The co-op is looking for investors.
It is offering debentures (a type of loan) where an investor can:
– choose the amount from between $500 and $500,000
– choose the term: either 5, 10 or 15 years, after which time the initial amount will be returned.
– choose the interest rate: either 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% per annum.
A summary of the Hub offer and the full disclosure statement are available on their website.
The next information and investor briefing will be held at the Hub, cnr of Barker and Templeton Streets, this Saturday May 10 in the Hub garden, accessed via Templeton Street, at 2pm. For more details visit www.castlemaine.coop
