Artists, makers, creative entrepreneurs and arts-focused business owners will get a boost for their business skills at Mount Alexander Shire’s Micro and Small Business Day this Friday June 27.

This free, full-day event taking place at venues across Castlemaine this Friday features more than 20 practical workshops, expert panels, mentoring sessions and a vibrant Business Expo at the Castlemaine Town Hall (12.15pm-2.30pm) – all tailored to help you grow your business, build connections and stay ahead of the curve.

A special program stream has been designed especially for creative business owners and artists aspiring to make more income from their practice.

In partnership with Creative Victoria and Business Victoria, the Creative Business in Practice program includes: Generating Cash Flow for Creative Business – a practical two-hour session is tailored for small creative businesses, offering strategies to manage income cycles, price work effectively, and build financial stability; a 45-minute mentoring session on the Business Victoria Bus; and a Creative Business in Practice Panel Session and Tour of The Mill Castlemaine – join local creatives for a panel on the key elements of running a successful creative enterprise–from developing your products and services to growing your market.

Council’s manager of economy and culture, Merryn Tinkler, said together with their partners at Creative Victoria and Business Victoria, council was pleased to be creating this opportunity for creatives to develop their business skills.

Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks said Mount Alexander Shire was home to a vibrant creative scene, one of the strongest in the state.

“It’s one of the things that makes this region such an attractive place to live and visit, and it also helps power the local economy,” he said.

“By supporting professional development opportunities like these, we are ensuring that creative workers and businesses in our regions have the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.”
