Famed Tango band TangoMundo will perform a concert of works by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla at the Northern Arts Hotel in Castlemaine on Saturday, August 2.
Faye Bendrups is a founding member of TangoMundo, as a singer and pianist.
Two special guest musicians will join Faye and the band for the gig: Faye’s son Dan Bendrups (conductor of the Foundry Band) and her grandson Boriss Bendrups, who recently graduated from Castlemaine Secondary College and is now studying music at Monash University.
Faye, Dan and Boriss love to share the creative power of making music.
Faye was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the performing arts and has taught multiple generations of new performers.
In 2024 her original play, The Fabulous Life of Lina Prokofiev, premiered on 42nd Street in New York, winning awards for Best Actress and Best Musician. Her son Dan, the trombonist, is a renowned educator and performer and set down roots in Castlemaine many years ago. Grandson Boriss has played around town with his own bands and is an aspiring drummer/singer.
“It’s such a fantastic opportunity for us all to come together onstage; it’s a unique example of how music crosses all boundaries of age, fashion, styles. It will be fun!” Faye said.
It’s rare to hear three generations of one family in one performance, with the extensive skills and experience that Faye, Dan and Boriss bring to the stage.
Faye has a word of advice, “It’s never too late to start a creative journey and music, as they say, soothes the soul.
“I’d recommend everyone play, sing, listen to and appreciate music in their own way as a lifelong practice.”
The Astor Piazzolla Tribute will be performed by TangoMundo at the Coolroom, Saturday August 2 at 7.30pm.
