This year marks the 20th anniversary of the initial activist actions aimed at forcing the closure of Newcastle Harbour, the largest coal export port worldwide. The inaugural demonstration continued for five hours before being dispersed by law enforcement authorities.
Rising Tide, the people’s blockade, continues annually.
A special screening of Rising Tide: Turning the Ship, a documentary chronicling the 2024 People’s Blockade, will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday August 21 at the Theatre Royal Castlemaine.
Representatives from Central Vic Climate Action will participate in a brief Q&A session following the film.

In November this year, 30-40 central Victorians from the Central Vic Climate Action group are heading up to Newcastle Port to take part in this year’s People’s Blockade. CVCA welcomes new members to join them at this year’s demonstration.
