For the very first time, Kyneton senior footballers have their chance this weekend to show their worth and stand up in a Riddell League final.
The Tigers crossed from the Bendigo League after the end of the 2023 season, and there was plenty of speculation about how strong they would be — there was a general expectation they would make finals last season in view of their Bendigo League background.
It didn’t happen, with the Tigers finishing sixth on the ladder behind Riddell, Diggers Rest, Romsey, Macedon and Melton Centrals.
It was a Final Five last season, but this season it is a Final Six — and the Tigers finished sixth after losing to Melton South in the final home and away round last Saturday.
This means Kyneton play Wallan in an elimination final at Riddell at 2.15pm this Sunday.
While Wallan won last Saturday against Gisborne Giants by 72 points, the Magpies were without topliners Cameron Cloke, Chris Stewart and Matt Perri through injury.
It could be a big Sunday for Kyneton supporters, with the club’s Under 19.5s playing Riddell at 10.15am on Sunday at Diggers Rest.
It’s an early start for Kyneton D-grade netballers on Sunday, with an 8am elimination final against Lancefield at Diggers Rest.
The Tigers are hoping their teams will receive strong support on Sunday.
The other senior elimination match on Sunday is at 2.15pm between Macedon and Melton South at Diggers Rest.
The Reserves elimination final at Riddell on Sunday is between Romsey and Macedon at 12.15pm.
The Under 19.5 Gisborne Giants versus Diggers Rest elimination final is at 10.15am at Riddell on Sunday.
SATURDAY AT ROMSEY
A big crowd is expected at Romsey Park on Saturday for the important senior football qualifying match between powerhouse sides Diggers Rest and Riddell.
The Under 19.5 qualifier on Saturday (10.15) sees Romsey with a home ground advantage against Macedon.
