Gisborne knocked back

Gisborne Football Netball Club mjust stay a member club of the Bendigo Football Netball League.

The Bendigo Football Netball League has confirmed that its appeal lodged in relation to the departure of the Gisborne Football Netball Club has been upheld. As a result, the GFNC will remain an affiliated member of the BFNL for the 2026 season and beyond and will not be permitted to transfer to the Ballarat league.

BFNL manager Tom King said this was a positive outcome for the league and the BFNL looked forward to the continued participation of the GFNC as a highly valued member of the league.

“The GFNC holds a strong reputation both on and off the field and continues to bring great value to our competitions,” he said.

“We extend our sincere thanks to all BFNL member clubs and AFL Victoria for their cooperation and support throughout the appeal process.”

Mr King said the BFNL reaffirmed its commitment to working constructively and positively with all clubs, ensuring both club and league sustainability remained at the forefront within the defined framework of the AFL Victoria Club Transfer Regulations.

It is expected there will be a strong local reaction to the decision. More to come.
