Two great farmers markets back-to-back

Yoko of Cooking with Koji returns to Castlemaine this month.

This weekend features two great farmers markets back-to-back; Lancefield District Farmers Market on Saturday and the Castlemaine Monthly Farmers Market on Sunday both running from 9am to 1pm. See ads on this page for locations.

You will find an excellent selection of fresh, in season, locally produced fruits, vegetables and mushrooms, regeneratively farmed meats and smallgoods, seafoods (Lancefield), award-winning fresh pasta and gnocchi, honey, internationally acclaimed cheeses, quality dairy, preserves and sauces, regional wines, craft beer (Lancefield), cider (Castlemaine), spirits, natural healthcare items, live poultry, plants and seedlings, sourdough breads and treats, stockfeed (Lancefield), probiotic drinks, nuts and more.

Returning to the Lancefield and District Farmers Market are Langdale Orchards.

Carol and Gavin Lang said that after their break from markets and what mother nature had thrown at them – hot, dry conditions, and a bushfire that devasted their town of Harcourt – they were returning to markets with new season apples and pears.

“The season is late because of the weather (hot and dry). The first apples we will have are the royal gala apples, sweet juicy crunchy and william pears,” Carol said.

“Those waiting for pink lady apples will have to wait until April, which is when they are picked.

“As the apples and pears ripen we will have more varieties.

“We take pride in our product grown on the orchard that has been in the family since 1858.”

Returning to Castlemaine this month is Cooking with Koji. Yoko has been celebrating the launch of her book, Pickling and Fermenting, which is now on its second print run!

Visiting the Castlemaine Farmers Market is Brenda Addie with Free Spoken Stories for Children.

Under the trees at the market, storyteller Brenda Joy Addie will share original spoken stories for children — told aloud, without screens or images. Beneath branches and birdsong, these gentle stories invite imagination, listening, and a slower kind of attention.

A small circle of story, held by the trees, in the midst of the market day. First session from 10.30am.

BYO bags, baskets and trolleys. Friendly dogs welcome on a leash.
