Take a walk on the wild side

TV Zoologist Chris Humfrey and the Wild Action Team are bringing their unforgettable live wildlife workshops to Jubilee Hall, Macedon.

Families across the Macedon Ranges are invited to rug up, get curious and come face-to-face with some of Australia’s most extraordinary wildlife these winter school holidays, as TV Zoologist Chris Humfrey and the Wild Action Team bring their unforgettable live wildlife workshops to Jubilee Hall, Macedon.

Running from Tuesday July 7 to 10, with sessions at 11am and 2pm daily, Wild Action’s Winter School Holiday Wildlife Workshops promise 90 minutes of hands-on, educational fun for children, parents, grandparents and anyone who loves animals.

This is not your average wildlife show. It is a full-blown, blockbuster lineup of live Australian wildlife — presented by passionate zoologists and wildlife educators who live and breathe conservation.

Guests can expect to meet an incredible selection of wildlife ambassadors, including a critically endangered mountain pygmy possum, giant python snakes, joey kangaroos, a wombat, echidna, owls, tawny frogmouths, koalas, crocodiles, giant tropical insects, frogs, turtles and so much more.

Chris Humfrey says the workshops are designed to be exciting, funny, memorable and deeply educational.

“We have an unbelievable selection of wildlife coming along,” Chris said. “Many of these animals are born and bred at Wild Action, and they are incredible ambassadors for their wild cousins. When children get to meet animals up close, they don’t just learn facts — they build a connection. That connection is where conservation begins.”

The workshops will explore how animals survive in the wild, from clever camouflage and powerful jaws to pouches, scales, feathers, claws and super senses. Children will learn about classification, adaptations, habitats, threats and each animal’s ecological niche — in other words, the special job each creature performs in nature.

“Every animal has a role to play,” Chris said. “A frog, a python, a wombat, an echidna, a crocodile — they all belong. They all matter. Our job is to help children understand why these animals are amazing and why they need our protection.”

Wild Action is well known across Victoria for delivering high-energy, curriculum-linked wildlife education. Chris Humfrey, a familiar face to many Australian families through his television work, has spent decades teaching children that “education is the key to conservation”.

And these school holiday workshops are designed to bring that message to life in the most exciting way possible.

“This is not just sitting and watching,” Chris said. “It is immersive, engaging and packed with live animals. We guarantee this is the very best, most educational and engaging wildlife show around.”

The event is also giving back to local conservation. Ten per cent of all proceeds will be shared between Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network and Wildlings — two fabulous local organisations in the Macedon Ranges that devote their lives to rescuing, rehabilitating and protecting wildlife.

“We are proud to support these wonderful organisations,” Chris said. “The people behind them work incredibly hard, often behind the scenes, caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. They deserve our community’s support.”

The workshops are suitable for all ages and are perfect for families looking for a fun, educational and meaningful school holiday activity close to home.

Tickets are $30 per person, with children under two free. Sessions will be held at Jubilee Hall, Macedon, at 11am and 2pm daily from Tuesday July 7 to Friday July 10.

Spaces are limited, and families are encouraged to book early.
