Two of Macedon Ranges’ former mayors will go head to head for the seat of Macedon at November’s state election.
Last week, Kate Kendall resigned from her mayoral duties and was announced the Liberal Party candidate for Macedon.
Kendall’s resignation from her mayoral duties will be effective from this Friday (close of business), and she will continue to serve as a councillor.
She will vie for the seat against Labor Party candidate, former Macedon Ranges mayor Annette Death.
Both are strong contenders for the role with proven leadership and in-depth knowledge of the region.
Labor has held the seat since the district was created in 2002 and Gisborne MP Joanne Duncan was the first to claim it. Before then, Liberal MP Tom Reynolds held the (now abolished) Gisborne seat before retiring after 20 years.
Now the seat is again wide open, as current Member for Macedon, Labor MP, Mary-Anne Thomas, has announced she will not recontest it in November. She has held the Macedon seat since 2014.
Labor and Liberal have been the consistent front-runners for Macedon. While Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party has seen a resurgence in some parts of the state, no candidate has yet been named.
