Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has set sight on Malmsbury to host its iconic ‘Village Feast’ in 2020.
Festival organisers have put the proposal to Macedon Ranges Council for the event that encourages local businesses, growers and producers to showcase their food and beverage.
As organisers, MFWF is seeking a financial contribution from the council to assist in running the event, an item that was discussed as confidential business last Wednesday.
Hosting the event in Malmsbury is expected to have positive economic development and tourism benefits to the Macedon Ranges and surrounds, and Malmsbury resident Sue Love said it would be a welcome boost.
“It’s an idyllic village – it would be delightful if Malmsbury was chosen,” she said.
“An event like this would really embrace all things local in our town. I can see it being a good thing for Malmsbury.”
Ms Love said the town’s new farmers market was already growing in popularity and was an example of some of the region’s offerings.
This year’s Village Feast was held in Jindivick, a tiny Gippsland dairy-farming town of just 500 people, and attracted hundreds of people keen to sample what the region had to offer. It included opportunities for a ‘glamping’ experience and a taste of celebrity with star chefs partnering with locals.
Food + Wine Victoria is still developing its regional program for 2020 and was unable to provide further detail at this time on the interest in Malmsbury.
