The road leads to Canberra for a growing contingent of determined locals heading there to join a national rally calling on the federal government for effective climate change action.
They’re inviting anyone who shares their concerns to join them and secure a spot on one of two charter buses headed to the People’s Climate Assembly on February 4 – the first Parliamentary sitting day of the year.
“We’re taking a message to Parliament,” Central Victorian Climate Action member Trevor Scott says.
“We think they’re failing on climate change action.”
Members of several different local groups have joined forces under the umbrella of Climate Justice and are aiming to get their message to the nation’s political leaders.
The People’s Climate Assembly is organised for the Parliament House lawn and will bring together numerous different groups – all of them calling for stronger policy settings to tackle the issue that’s become increasingly heated in the wake of Australia’s unprecedented fire season.
“It’s a really big national effort involving convoys joining together from around Australia,” (Extinction Rebellion) XR Castlemaine member Floria Maschea says.
“We’d like to invite members of the public to join us,” Trevor says.
“Or if they want to go but can’t make it this time to get involved by making a donation or brining a hard copy message to the Climate Justice tent at Saturday’s Wesley Hill Market by Saturday February 1.”
