Council staff fear job losses as a major organisational restructure begins to shake up Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
Chief executive officer Margot Stork confirmed last week the council was in the process of transitioning from four directorates to three.
Hundreds of council staff will not know the full impact of the restructure for 10-12 weeks, a source revealed.
The Midland Express understands director of community wellbeing Karen Stevens left the organisation last week in the reshuffle and uncertainty now hangs over the roles that made up the directorate.
Ms Stevens held her director position with the council since November 2010, overseeing recreation/sport, community development, arts and culture, and community services such as kindergartens and maternal and child health.
The council’s four-tier structure included directors across community wellbeing, corporate services, planning and environment, and, assets and operations.
At this stage it is unclear how the move will change the council’s financial position and efficiency, or if there will be any changes to services.
Council was unable to provide detailed answers to questions put by the Midland Express.
Ms Stork said information would be shared with the community when the process was complete.
“Informal feedback is being sought from staff to help inform a new draft organisation structure. Once the new structure is determined, we will be able to share this with the community,” Ms Stork said.
“Many councils of a similar size to Macedon Ranges Shire Council operate with three directorates, or even two.”
Neighbouring shires have also seen changes over recent years. Mitchell Shire underwent a similar structural change in 2015, moving from four directorates to three, while both Mount Alexander and Hepburn shires operate with a two-directorate structure.
