Mt Alexander Community Enterprise Inc has donated $4000 to local groups in support of their COVID-19 work in the community.
Representatives of Mt ACE attended the Community Pantry at the Castlemaine Church of Christ to hand over their contribution last week.
Mt ACE recognises the important work local groups are undertaking during this difficult time and the strain on their finances as they assist locals with food, housing and other support needs that have been exacerbated by the coronavirus shutdowns.
As a result the group provided $1000 to each of the following groups – Castlemaine Community House, Castlemaine District Community Health, The Salvation Army and St Vincents de Paul.
Mt ACE treasurer Kim Michelmore said they knew these groups had been working hard to assist locals in need.
“We wanted to make donations that would make a difference locally,” Kim said.
The Community Pantry is a great example of many local groups coming together to make a real difference.
Emma Shannon from the Central Victorian Primary Care Partnership is coordinating the project and said that more than 2000 food parcels had already been distributed since the pantry began.
This has included 1750 frozen meals and 300 grocery packs that have been distributed to 99 households so far.
Free frozen meals and food packages are prepared at the Castlemaine Church of Christ each weekday supported by volunteers, local groups and charities.

Mt Alexander Community Enterprise Inc is a voluntary group whose funds are raised through the Bendigo Bank and Bendigo Telco. Just by asking to tag your accounts as a Mt ACE supporter, a commission will be paid by these businesses and Mt ACE then distributes these funds through donations and grants.
