A driver was lucky to escape serious injury in a single-vehicle accident on Ford Road at Harcourt North on Sunday afternoon.
Castlemaine Police Sergeant Steve Bax said the vehicle collided with a tree around 3pm and fortunately the woman was able to free herself from the car before it burst into flames.
Multiple passers-by stopped to render assistance and the CFA was quickly on scene to extinguish the fire and approximately 100 square metres of burning grassland. The driver was conveyed to Bendigo Base Hospital by ambulance for treatment for minor injuries.
