Kyneton local Kate Coleman started the healthy eating and environment campaign, No Packet November, back in 2017 after noticing how many packets were in kids lunchboxes.

The awareness campaign offers free recipes on the website, and Kate has just produced another e-book, which is available for sale with 20 per cent of funds going to Take 3 for the Sea, to help reduce the amount of plastic in our oceans.

This year’s e-book includes more than 10 breakfast and snack recipes, along with sustainability and shopping tips.

Kate is a certified nutrition and health coach and has included questions throughout the book to get the reader thinking about their habits and what changes they would like to make to their overall health.

“It is empowering to complete the questions as it helps the reader to set some realistic goals that they want to focus on,” Kate said.

“The questions cover everything from asking about food intake and exercise frequency, through to stress, sleep habits and relaxation.

“There has never been a more important time to improve your health.

“If everyone increased their vegetable intake, improved their fitness, and ensured they had adequate rest and relaxation, there would be a decrease in lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, and the various complications that go with it.”

The campaign encourages families to eat more fresh, whole foods and less processed, packaged food.

“Most kids have three packets in their lunchbox each day, or 15 per week,” Kate said.

“For a school with 300 students, that is 4500 packets per week going to landfill and a staggering 180,000 per year.

“Not to mention that many of the packaged foods contain 20 plus ingredients, such as artificial colours, flavours and preservatives that have been linked to allergies, learning difficulties and obesity.”
