Tiny homes to tackle homelessness

Castlemaine District Community Health has developed a project proposal to help those who are homeless, but it needs help.
The Tiny Homes Sweet Home project proposes the development of tiny homes as temporary accommodation in Castlemaine. The project would use the model of the Tiny Homes Foundation in Gosford NSW, and work in with local tiny homes builder Fred Schultz from Fred’s Tiny Houses on design.
Still needed for the project is land for the homes, funding, and in-kind support to get it off the ground.
Housing services manager Michael McMahon said CDCH would welcome volunteers and any funding assistance.
“We are always struggling with difficulties around housing, but it’s the success stories that keep us moving forward and give us inspiration to innovate, like what we are doing with the tiny house project,” he said.
“The model in Gosford is already successful, so we know it works. We hope to build six tiny homes close to support services in Castlemaine. That will hopefully be a prototype for larger projects.”
Details on the project are available on the CDCH website at www.cdchcastlemaine.com.au, or by calling CDCH on 5479 1000.
