Despite overcast skies, more than 350 people packed the hangar at the Kyneton Aero Club on Saturday for the annual Cancer Council morning tea fly-in.
The fly-in attracted aircraft from Melbourne, Euchca, Bendigo, Geelong and other parts of Victoria who parked up in the display field beside the dozen or so planes owned by aero club members.
Visitors to the airfield were able to get up close to the planes including vintage warbirds, high-performance sport aircraft and ex-military trainers.
The upgraded facilities including runway lighting, new hangars and refuelling services at the community owned airfield has seen more than 60 aircraft make Kyneton their home base.
Local pilot Norm Edmunds turned heads with his brightly painted ‘Starlet’ sports aircraft which came completed with a rocket-powered pooch named Polly.
The photogenic pup was finally coaxed out of the cockpit with a sausage from the barbecue.
Kyneton Aero Club president Warren Canning thanked the local businesses who helped to support the charity fly-in and morning tea.
“With help from local businesses and the community, today we raised just over $2600 for cancer research plus we’ve been able to again promote Kyneton as a great day-trip and short break destination to other aero clubs and pilots across the state,” he said.
