Five local community organisations and one national charity will share in more than $28,000 as a result of the success of the most recent Garden Lovers Fair held at Bolobek in Macedon in October this year.
The event has grown significantly over the past 10 years to become one of the largest events in regional Victoria and has been praised for its organisation, presentation and visitor experience.
Fair host Brigid Robertson said more than 50 high-quality and specialist stallholders and more than 3200 Victorian and interstate visitors attended this year’s fair, which boasted Maggie Beer as a keynote speaker.
“This year’s event was notable for the range of organisations whose members volunteered to assist with the tasks required to make the event the success it is, and the Garden Lovers Fair organising committee is absolutely delighted to be able to give back to those organisations by way of donations from the profit made from the fair,” Ms Robertson said.
“While the main beneficiary of the proceeds of the fair this year was the Mount Macedon and District Horticultural Society, very special mention must be made of the Gisborne SES whose members have been running the carparking at the fair brilliantly for more than 10 years. The Gisborne Rovers have also played a big role in the fair over the same period.
“Other significant volunteer contributions were made by the Macedon and Mt Macedon Community House, the Maggie Beer Foundation, the Macedon and Mt Macedon Landcare Group, the Mt Macedon ANZAC Dawn Service Committee and the Mt Macedon Carols by Candlelight Committee.
“The fair organising committee remains committed to ensuring that any profits raised from future Garden Lovers Fairs are reinvested back into the Macedon Ranges community to facilitate continued delivery of important programs and projects and to support services that benefit residents and the community more broadly.”
Next year’s fair will be held at Bolobek on October 5 and 6, 2024.
