Join local Castlemaine community members for a film and soup night to raise awareness about the ongoing situation in Gaza, and much-needed funds for the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network.
Attendees can show community solidarity while enjoying soup and watching the film Gaza Surf Club. The film, shot over five years, follows a group of people in Gaza who surf as a source of freedom.
This is an all-ages community event including a dedicated kids’ space with craft and other activities. Seating will be available, however people are welcome to bring their own cushions and blankets.
“We hope that this event will offer community members another avenue to learn about and show solidarity with the people of Palestine,” said volunteer Meg Sattler.
“We hope people will stay engaged with the situation in Gaza, understand its context, and continue to call for a ceasefire.”
The evening is being organised by a small group of local volunteers, and all money raised will be donated.
Entry is on a sliding scale from $10 to $50 and beyond, and will include the film, soup and children’s activities.
This is a volunteer-run event held on Djaara country at the Campbells Creek Community Centre on Thursday August 1 from 6pm to 9pm.
APAN is a national coalition working across a number of areas advocating for Palestinian human rights, justice and equality.
