Three local men’s sheds will share in more than $110,000 in state government funding to enable them to build two new sheds and improve another.
Nalderun Education Aboriginal Corporation was successful in obtaining $93,705 to help them complete capital works for a First Nations men’s shed and Mount Alexander Vintage Engine Club was provided $76,000 to construct a new community shed for an established group in Muckleford.
Castlemaine Men’s Shed was also provided almost $10,000 to aid in equipment purchases and minor works.
Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards, who was onsite at the Castlemaine Men’s Shed for the announcement earlier this month, said she couldn’t wait to see the benefits the new spaces and upgrades would provide.
“Congratulations to each of our local recipients on receiving funding this year,” she said.
“By investing in Men’s Sheds, we are supporting spaces that create a sense of belonging, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our community.”
Men’s sheds are more than just a place to tinker, they’re an important support network for men, helping them to learn important skills from woodworking to home repairs, while providing a sense of purpose and community.
