The Good Op Shop in Castlemaine is launching an exciting new upstairs space called ‘The Re-usery’, where people can learn new skills, repair items and make things out of old stuff.
On Saturday, head down to The Good Op Shop to have a look at the new space – Mend in Public Day will be on from 10.30am in the courtyard and a free kids Fashion Lab workshop is on offer from 1pm to 2pm.
“We see a lot of potential in many of the things donated to the op shop that can be reused, so we imagined a fun space where people could breathe new life into these goods,” said Tiffany from The Good Op Shop.
The Re-usery plans to host workshops, provide a maker space and eventually aims to establish a repair service.
“Castlemaine and surrounds has a lot of creative and talented people who might be interested to share their skills and knowledge in how to repurpose and repair things in this space,” Tiffany said.
The Re-usery will open for viewing on Saturday April 26, which is also ‘Mend in Public Day’. People are invited to bring something to mend and sit in the courtyard at the Salvage Yard from 10.30am, and menders will be there to guide anyone who needs help.
And from 1pm to 2pm, a free kids ‘Upcycled Fashion Lab’ will be on offer for eight to 14-year-olds at The Re-usery.
“We hope to offer a wide variety of workshops through The Re-usery, and provide materials and tools that can be used by the public,” Tiffany said.
“If people want to lease the space to run a workshop, they can. Or if someone wants to run an art therapy session, they can. We’re sort of in a ‘build it and they will come’ phase.”
