MASG calls for new members

MASG project and engagement coordinator Kez Jennings and MASG committee member Bill Grant invite community members to sign on to become a member.

Mount Alexander Sustainability Group Inc is holding a membership drive this month and invites community members to join the fold and help support its sustainability work.

MASG members will be visiting the Castlemaine Farmers Market at the Camp Reserve each Wednesday and will hold an information stall at Wesley Hill Market this Saturday June 14.

The group has Deductible Gift Recipient status so now is the perfect time for community members to also look at making an end-of-financial-year tax deductible donation to support its important work.

MASG project and engagement coordinator Kerrily (Kez) Jennings said MASG was in its 19th year and had a passionate committee of management driving the group behind the scenes.

The group’s wonderful pool of volunteers support the various projects in their four focus areas towards Net Zero, including waste reduction, renewable energy, energy efficiency and agriculture.

However, they’d love to welcome new members and volunteers to join them in helping take MASG into the next chapter.

“We continue to run a wide array of projects including our Wash Against Waste Trailer, which pops up at events across the shire, and our monthly Repair Cafe at our home base at Castlemaine Community House, which encourages community members to repair items and keep clothing and appliances out of landfill,” Kez said.

“Our highly successful Regenerative Agriculture program has also seen MASG working closely with local farmers to improve soils and productivity,” she said.

MASG committee member Bill Grant said their Retrofit Program, where experienced volunteers assisted home owners and renters with making their homes more energy efficient, also continued to thrive.

“Our volunteers assist community members to make simple and practical changes to reduce their energy use, bills and emissions,” he said.

“Work also continues on a number of renewable energy projects and we have forged valuable connections with various other community groups, schools, businesses and organisations working to make a difference in the sustainability sphere,” Bill said.
