The 171st Castlemaine and District Agricultural Show returns to the Camp Reserve this Friday and Saturday, October 31 and November 1.

Be sure to get your horticulture, flower and cookery entry forms in by tomorrow, Wednesday October 29, at 5.30pm.

These entries must be dropped off between 8am and 10am on Thursday October 30. Judging will start at 11am sharp.

Castlemaine Show secretary Debbie Hamilton said Don KR Castlemaine had kindly sponsored this year’s cookery section so local residents could submit their entries for free, so get cooking and baking!

This year’s show is expected to once again be a highlight on the community calendar.

“All the action kicks off Friday night with our traditional show parade led by the Castlemaine Highland Pipe Band commencing at 6.30pm and winding its way to the showgrounds where you can enjoy rides, sideshows and carnival festivities and pick up your favourite showbag,” Debbie said.

“The Midland Axeman’s Association woodchop will kick off at 6.30pm proudly supported by Mount Alexander Timber and Hardware and the pavilion displays are always a highlight,” she said.

The evening will be capped off with the fireworks display at 10pm.

On Saturday the fun continues with show day events and displays.

“We have some wonderful free events for kids happening this year,” Debbie said.

“On Friday and Saturday we will welcome the team from ‘Fural’ in Ballarat who will be providing youngsters with the chance to build and paint their own wooden creations and then paint them. This activity is proudly sponsored by the Show Society.

“On Saturday from 10am we will also welcome the Grubby Boots Animal Farm, which is jointed supported by the Show Society and Cantwell Property Castlemaine,” she said.

The Pet Show proudly supported by Mount Alexander Animal Welfare will also be returning Saturday.

“MAAW are very kindly donating their time to steward the event and once again our lovely mayor will be judging along with another guest judge. This will be lots of fun for all ages so bring along your fur baby. Just $2 per entry with some wonderful prizes from MAAW,” Debbie said.

The show office at the Camp Reserve is open for tickets and enquiries weekdays 11am-5.30pm.

Entry to the show is $15 adults, pensioners $8, children over six years $8, children under six years free.
