In support of the Redesdale and District communities, the Redesdale Recreational Reserve Committee and the Redesdale and District Association are hosting a community barbecue on Sunday to support volunteer firefighters who lost their homes during the recent fires in Harcourt.
“Our community barbecue is about giving back to those who gave so much for others during the fires,” said Mark Laurie, chair of the RRRC.
“It is a small but meaningful way for our community to stand together and help support local volunteer firefighters who have suffered significant personal loss.”
All proceeds raised on the day will be donated to the CFA Taradale GoFundMe for affected volunteer firefighters, as listed on the Mount Alexander Shire Council’s official fundraising page.
The community barbecue will be held at the Agnes Mudford Reserve, located at the intersection of Lyell Road and the Heathcote–Redesdale Road. Food and refreshments available will include a barbecue with salads and rolls, ice creams, water and soft drinks. Family-friendly activities will include children’s games and CFA water activities.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by local businesses and individuals in supporting this event,” Mr Laurie said. “It reflects the very best of country community spirit – people looking after one another when it matters most.”
Redesdale Fire Brigade president Tony Leahy said their volunteers didn’t expect recognition, but gestures like these reminded them that the community they protected also looked after its own as if they were all one family.
The barbecue event will run from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday February 15, and everyone is welcome.
