Team Top Gun returns

David Tyquin and his son Calvin will again hit the road as team Top Gun.

For David Tyquin and his son Calvin, the 2026 Shitbox Rally isn’t just about driving a $1500 car across Australia, it’s about driving hope.

The Kyneton and Malmsbury father-son team is returning to the rally to raise funds for the Cancer Council in support of families impacted by cancer.

From May 1-9, they’ll tackle some of the country’s toughest and most remote roads, travelling from Port Douglas to Melbourne in their 2002 Holden VY Calais.

It’s not a race, but it is a serious challenge. Hundreds of teams take part, all navigating harsh terrain in vehicles most people wouldn’t trust on a long highway trip, let alone across Australia.

The pair previously raised $28,180 for the Cancer Council, and they’re determined to go even bigger this time.

Top Gun Truck and Car Show

As part of their fundraising efforts, David and Calvin will once again host the Top Gun Truck and Car Show at the Kyneton Racecourse on Sunday, March 1, from 10am to 3pm.

Now in its second year, the event promises to be bigger and better, building on last year’s success with increased interest and exciting new attractions.

Children will be kept entertained with face painting, pony rides, train rides and playground activities. Food will be available from 10am including a barbecue, coffee van, hot jam donuts and ice cream, while the bar will be open for adults throughout the day.

Car and truck enthusiasts can explore a wide range of classic and modern vehicles, along with a special display of high-powered tractor-pull machines.

Live entertainment will fire up in the afternoon when The Great Big Beer Band, featuring ARIA Award-winning artist Reece Mastin, hits the stage with a high-energy set packed with crowd favourites.

The afternoon will also feature a major raffle draw and live charity auction, with all proceeds going directly to the Cancer Council.

David and Calvin extend their thanks to the Kyneton and Hanging Rock Racing Club for donating the venue and operating the bar, along with the many local and regional sponsors supporting the event.

Entry is $10 for adults, with free entry for children aged under 16 years.
