Super mare, three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva gave birth to a filly early Friday morning. And dad is a local lad, one of Australia’s pre-eminent stallions named Written Tycoon who stands at Woodside Park stud at Tylden.
Makybe Diva dropped her foal – the ninth for the 19-year-old mare – at Vinery Stud in New South Wales without any difficulties and at last reports the little filly, who is yet to be named, and her dam are doing superbly well. Hopefully in time she’ll be superbly fast as well. In fact, chances are that she will be given not just her world-famous mum but her sire too. Written Tycoon is the sire of winners. So far his progeny has amassed a massive $49,000,000 in earnings and included in that are 24 stakes winners and 20 stakes placegetters.
He has been standing at Tylden since 2013 when his service fee was $13,750. But in the years gone, so successful have his offspring been on the race track that this stud season he now commands a $110,000 fee.
And while we are thinking how nice it would be if this latest daughter took after mum, she has in sorts already taken after her dad. She looks like her chestnut-coated sire even down to the white blaze on her face and white socks on her legs.
And just for the record, she was born on the morning of the eve of the big race day named in her mum’s honour at Flemington – the Makybe Diva Stakes Day. And if you are looking for omens, the little filly was born on the birthday of another great mare – Winx.
