In a tribute to the trucking industry of Australia and the people who have kept the wheels turning during an extraordinary year, Castlemaine Rotary Club members – organisers of the Castlemaine Truck Show – have launched a photo and short story competition.
With a theme of ‘People at work with Trucks’, the competition is running during the month of October and the judging panel will be looking for a diverse range of photographs and short stories that celebrate the story of trucking in Australia.
Entries are invited up until October 31 from both amateur and professional photographers.
Whether you are behind the wheel, under the bonnet, washing it down, or loading it up, you and your truck could be in the running for some fantastic prizes.
A portable fridge sponsored by UsedTrucks.com.au and fuel vouchers sponsored by Lowes Petroleum Service are just a few of the rewards some lucky entrants can expect to win.
The judges will also have the important task of selecting photos and supporting 50 words to feature in a 2021 calendar sponsored by Kenworth DAF Melbourne.
Details of a ‘People’s Choice’ vote will also be released in early November allowing trucking enthusiasts to select the coveted front cover position on the calendar.
For those without access to a truck but still wanting to support Rotary’s valuable fundraising towards community projects, copies of the calendar can be pre-purchased along with tickets in an online raffle with a total value of $2200.
Castlemaine artist Geoff Hocking has created ‘Big Mac’, an oil on canvas especially for the Truck Show Raffle. Maine Civil has donated a fuel voucher, there is a massage for two by Endota Spa Complex Daylesford, MACK merchandise courtesy of CMV Trucks and Bus, and CAT merchandise from William Adams.
2020 Castlemaine Rotary Truck Show coordinator, Kerry Anderson, said the photo and short story competition was the first of a number of announcements leading up to the Castlemaine Truck Show weekend on November 28-29.
“While we may not be able to conduct our 32nd Castlemaine Rotary Truck Show in the manner we are accustomed to, we are committed to keeping the spirit alive,” Ms Anderson said.
“A series of online speakers is being planned for the weekend including the announcement of the photo competition and raffle winners. Some small-scale activities are also being planned for our local trucking businesses, restrictions permitting,” she said.
