First of three before council

A 42-lot subdivision application for Kyneton's Edgecombe Road forms part of a major development for the area, which includes a future major hardware retailer and fuel station with fast-food restaurant.

Macedon Ranges Shire councillors are expected to decide on a 42-lot subdivision for Kyneton’s Edgecombe Road this week.
The application forms part of a major development for the area, which includes a future major hardware retailer and fuel station with fast-food restaurant.
The 42-lot subdivision is the first of three applications to go before the council, deemed the “less controversial” of the three, attracting 10 objections and five letters of support.
Submitters were heard at a committee meeting earlier this month.
Objections included impact on native flora and fauna, increased traffic, road and pedestrian safety, adverse impact on character, noise and light emission, while supporters pointed to economic benefits, job creation and the need for growth in the town.
Consultant for the applicant Rob Milnar explained to councillors the application had been intentionally made in three parts.
“We saw the act of subdivision itself as being the relatively uncontroversial part of this application. We anticipated that there may be other parts of the application that may be more controversial,” he said.
“What we didn’t want to do was create a situation where one aspect of the proposal held up the totality of it.”
At the time, Mr Milnar said end uses for the sites had not yet been “locked away”.
Councillors are expected to decide on the application at their ordinary meeting tonight.
