D’Arcy a leader

D'Arcy Egberts is part of this year's Shrine of Remembrance Young Ambassador Leadership Program.

D’Arcy Egberts has an in-depth knowledge of Australian war history beyond her years.

Her dedication and leadership skills earned her a place in the Shrine of Remembrance Young Ambassador Leadership Program.

The year 10 Sacred Heart College student was among those assisting at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance ANZAC services on Monday. For the first time, she also had the chance to attend the shrine’s dawn service, an experience she’ll never forget.

“I have been interested in Australian war history for forever,” she told the Express.

“It’s something I am very passionate about and I like to pass on my knowledge to others, which is a big part of what the leadership program is about.”

Young ambassadors are year nine and 10 students who participate in programs and commemorative services at the shrine. They act as leaders and representatives of future generations at the shrine.

A key part of D’Arcy’s role is to encourage peers and other young people to understand the importance of remembering and honouring Australia’s service community and military history.

D’Arcy, along with fellow young ambassadors, worked alongside the shrine’s professional staff and volunteers on Legacy Day (April 6) – a day that recognises family with war history.

She will return to assist with various other commemorative services and events throughout the year.
