A stray spark from a welder ignited materials and chemicals in a tin shed on a rural property at Lauriston yesterday.
The blaze broke out about 4.30pm and quickly engulfed the large workshop shed.
Fire brigades from Malmsbury, Kyneton, Spring Hill and Taradale rushed to the Lauriston Road address and began property protection to prevent the fire spreading to the house just metres away.
Support units from also set up pumping points using neighbouring dams.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus took about half an hour to knock down the flames, their efforts hampered by exploding gas cylinders and chemicals stored inside the workshop.
Paramedics treated two men at the scene for minor burns.
