Two boats and a car were completely destroyed in a shed fire in Kyneton yesterday afternoon.
Multiple callers to triple zero raised the alarm shortly before 4pm as the blaze engulfed the metal shed at the rear of a home in Warren Street.
Thick plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometres away prompting the CFA to issue a community warning. Nearby neighbours also reported hearing explosions that were most likely to be the car and boat trailer tyres.
Local CFA brigades were on the scene within minutes and immediately established no one was inside the burning structure while crews set up protection lines to stop the fire from spreading to adjoining properties.
Wearing breathing apparatus, the firefighters set about extinguishing the fire, cutting through roller doors into the 20-metre-long shed where inside the searing heat had caused the roof to collapse, twisting heavy steel metal beams and destroying two boats.
The melted aluminium hull of one vessel was a proof point of the intense heat.
Quick action by firefighters was assisted by clear access to the fire hydrant in the ground across the street, which provided a secure water supply for the pumper truck.
The incident was declared safe shortly before 5.30pm. No injuries were reported and paramedics attended to check the condition of the home owner. The fire was started by a faulty battery and was not suspicious.
