The Castlemaine Chamber Players are thrilled to be among three local groups to recently receive funds via Regional Arts Victoria.
The group was successful in attaining grant support for the composition of a new musical work that combines the local Castlemaine Chamber Players string quartet and the Castlemaine Children’s Choir and will be composed and performed by local musicians and children in Castlemaine.
The work will feature local themes and will bring together professional musicians with young performers and engage the community – including local primary students.
Wendy Rowlands of Corker Orchestra and Mainesong Choir is the composer, and Tim Watson, the director of the Castlemaine Children’s Choir, will also collaborate on the project. The initiative also has the support of the Castlemaine Community House manager Martyn Shaddick.
Castlemaine Chamber Players member and composer Wendy Rowlands said rehearsals would culminate in a performance of the new work in the Castlemaine Town Hall in June 2020.
“The composition will be the centrepiece of the concert and there will be other music performed at the concert by the choir and quartet,” Ms Rowlands said.
After the concert the composition will be published and promoted to other children’s choirs and string quartets in Australia.
“There is only a small repertoire already available for this combination, so more will be welcome,” she said.
A documentary recording of the concert will also be delivered to local schools and the Castlemaine Community House for posterity.
