Kalamazoo Resources is the latest to express interest in the hunt for valuable mineral resources in the Macedon Ranges.
The company is seeking a five-year mining exploration licence for 16km2 of land straddling the Daylesford-Malmsbury Road between Malmsbury and Drummond.
The exploration would include historical research, geological mapping, rock chip and soil sampling, ground-based geophysical surveys, and exploration drilling in identified target areas.
Kalamazoo’s application, lodged December 2, is the third significant request for mining exploration for the Macedon Ranges in two years.
It follows Currawong Resources’ application earlier this year to explore 280km2 in the Kyneton/Woodend/Trentham/Tylden region, and an exploration licence for 234km2 around the Lancefield and Romsey townships that was stopped last year with a 5276-strong petition led by Romsey comedian Tom Gleeson.
Macedon Ranges Shire Council has made a submission to Earth Resources Victoria on Kalamazoo’s application consistent with its two previous submissions on similar applications.
If granted, the licence entitles the holder to explore and search for minerals in the relevant land, but does not entitle the holder to undertake mining.
