Buses will replace trains between Flagstaff, North Melbourne and Sunbury stations as part of Sunbury line upgrade works starting this Saturday.
Sunbury line passengers will travel on replacement buses from 12.45am on Saturday, June 27, until the last train on Sunday, July 5.
On weekends and from 9pm weekdays, buses will replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunbury. On weekdays until 9pm, buses replace trains between Flagstaff and Sunbury.
During this period, crews will deliver station platform upgrades to enable bigger and better trains to run on the line.
From the first train on Monday July 6, the new third platform will open at West Footscray Station. This will provide a dedicated platform for citybound passengers, reducing congestion on the island platform, with passengers able to spread over two separate platforms.
Coaches will also replace Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca trains to and from Southern Cross station over the same nine-day period as part of maintenance and renewal works along the length of the line.
The upgrades will include works along the length of the Bendigo line to bridges and culverts, including the Campaspe River Bridge in Rochester and mud hole removal, which can cause a rough ride.
