Axeman on the way up

Riddells Creek arborist Zac Giouzelis has proven his precision and speed in claiming bronze at Stihl’s Timbersports Australian Rookie Championship.

It was the 22-year-old’s debut Stihl event at the Gold Coast earlier this month and he was excited to share the podium.

Curtis Bennett (NSW) won the Rookies Championship gold and Mitch Scrivener claimed silver.

“I would have been happy to cut fourth – so third was better than I’d hoped,” he told the Express.

“The atmosphere was amazing. It was fast-paced and had a really good vibe.”

Zac was in his element for the stock saw event where he claimed the top spot with a time of 13.74.

His next best was the standing block chop where he came in second (18.84), followed by his third rank in the single buck (21.95).

Zac has competed at plenty of agricultural shows since the age of 15 and won a Victorian title at the Melbourne Show in 2016.

For the past seven years he been chipping away with family business PM Tree Worx in Riddells Creek.

Zac now has his sight set on future competitions.
