Firefighters helped to save a cow stuck in mud up to its neck in Kyneton on Thursday.
Four CFA units from Arthurs Creek, Tylden and Kyneton were called to the scene at a Greenway Lane property about 11.51am.
Macedon Ranges Shire Council was also on scene and made heavy machinery available for any potential rescue operation.
Despite the tough, muddy terrain, firefighters worked together to devise a plan that would free the cow from the mud in the safest way possible.
A local vet was called to the scene to sedate the cow so crews could safely dig around it and fit a sling underneath.
The cow was pulled from the mud and moved to safety on firmer ground.
The cow was alive when it was handed back into the care of the farmer at 3.30pm, however it was still sedated at the time.
The rescue follows days of rainfall in the region.
