A car was completely destroyed by fire after bursting into flames at Woodend on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene near the Woodend Primary School just after 5pm.
Woodend Fire Brigade’s captain and deputy group officer were first on scene and made sure the driver, the sole occupant, was safely out of the car.
Woodend crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe. Police closed the road for some time to enable the scene to be cleared.
The driver had filled up with fuel at the nearby service station and driven a short distance before being alerted to flames coming from his vehicle. It is thought leaked fuel hitting the hot exhaust may have ignited the blaze.
