A vision for Lancefield’s key sporting precinct has been set in a new Lancefield Park Recreation Reserve Master Plan.
The plan includes a 10-year action plan with more than 40 separate projects with short, medium and long-term priorities for
implementation, and strategic direction.
Some of those high-priority projects include a tennis clubrooms extension, Laurie Green Pavilion upgrades, hall expansion, cricket nets, drainage work, oval two floodlights, replacement fending and shelters at the main oval, and a management plan for the megafauna site.
The total estimated cost for full implementation of the plan is about $7,465,000.
Lancefield Park Recreation Reserve, located on Crown land within the Macedon Ranges Shire, is owned by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and managed by the volunteer-led Lancefield Park Committee of Management.
The master plan was prepared on behalf of the Lancefield Park Committee of Management (Lancefield Park Recreations Reserve Incorporated), with support from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Macedon Ranges Shire Council. MRSC noted the plan at its ordinary meeting last month.
Councillor Daniel Young said the master plan provided clarity on the some of problems user groups were facing and investment required to maintain facilities.
“There’s the impression that all of those user groups in that precinct are actually really uncertain about the future of that park, they are uncertain about how they are going to manage their own asset, they’re uncertain about the overall management,” he said.
“I think there is a lot of work to be done by everyone: user groups, council, and state government, to bring some clarity to those groups.”
Clubs and groups based at Lancefield Park include: Lancefield Football Netball Club, Lancefield Cricket Club, Lancefield Junior Football Netball Club, Lancefield Bowling Club, Lancefield Small Bore Rifle Club, Lancefield Tennis Club, Lancefield and District Pony Club, Lancefield Equestrian Group, Romsey Lancefield Girl Guides, Lancefield Agricultural Society, and Lancefield parkrun.
Mayor Dominic Bonanno said the council understood the value of the sports precinct and was pleased to support development of a new master plan. The last plan was developed in 2012.
“It is now over to you (the management committee) to advocate for state and federal funding and with elections looming, the timing couldn’t be better,” he said.
