Apple TV fills up in Carlsruhe

The original book cover features an orange Mustang, and an old Ford Escort of the same colour was present on set.

Filming of a new Apple TV miniseries took place at the BP petrol station in Carlsruhe last Thursday and Friday.

The new show is based on the book, The Dispatcher, by Ryan David Jahn, about a police detective whose life fell apart 10 years earlier when his daughter went missing. He receives a distress call he believes to be her, and he goes on a journey to reunite his family. Patrick Brammall (Colin from Accounts) is the lead role and the Express believes Chloe Geisker plays his daughter, while Brendan Cowell (Game of Thrones) plays the antagonist.

The show is promoted with the same name online, however local residents received a letter – warning of the show’s disturbance – which listed the show’s title as Granite. About 100 people were on set over the two-day shoot and the road was blocked on occasion for stunt driving.

The original book cover features an orange Mustang, and an old Ford Escort of the same colour was present on set, as well as other classic Australian cars, such as Holden Commodores, suggesting the series could be an Australian adaptation. The screenplay has also been adapted by Kris Mrksa, an acclaimed Australian TV show writer who worked on Underbelly and Packed to the Rafters.

It marks the second occasion the petrol station has been used for a film production in the past year, and the adjacent Calder Freeway was also blocked off last month for a Hollywood film shoot starring Liam Neeson.

Information regarding Apple TV’s latest show is being kept under wraps and the full cast is yet to be announced.
