Could big changes soon be on the cards for the old Romsey Hotel site?
A planning application was lodged last Monday for a 10-lot subdivision at the 90-94 Main Street address. The property also fronts 1 William Street and 94 Barry Street.
Macedon Ranges Shire Council confirmed receipt of the application, which is currently being assessed.
“The application is in the very early stages of the application process, with council yet to undertake any assessment,” a council representative said.
While the application is for a redevelopment of the site, the Express understands that, at this time, it does not include demolition of the Romsey Hotel building.
Residents have been eagerly awaiting the site’s next steps, since a second attempt to re-open the Romsey Hotel was unsuccessful last year.
Romsey Football Netball Club had applied for 50 EGMs in 2023 amid plans for a $10 million overhaul of the pub.
The application reignited a community fight from years earlier following a similar bid for pokies at the site that ended at the Supreme Court. The pub has been closed since 2017.
When plans were released to the community for the proposed $10 million pub development, they also ran alongside alternate options for the site including a fast food restaurant, like McDonalds, and high-density housing.
More information on the current 10-lot subdivision is expected to become available if the application progresses.
